Nili Chinese Learning is a small Chinese-language tuition and enrichment centre. We care more about a child's learning journey than a results wall: small classes, MOE-trained teachers, and materials rebuilt for each child.
Why Nili
A child who joins at AL6 and reaches AL4 through real growth matters more here than a good grade with no progress. These four habits are how that philosophy actually runs.
Preschool capped at 8, primary at 5, secondary at 6. Smaller rooms let a teacher watch every child closely, give timely feedback, and adjust as the lesson runs.
The teaching team is made up of current and former MOE teachers, each holding a degree or master's in Chinese Language, with years of classroom experience.
Homework is not standardised. Worksheets and focus adjust to each child's ability, class performance, and exam timetable. The point is to work on what matters, not more of everything.
After each class, parents hear how the child did, including progress, setbacks and what comes next, face-to-face or by voice message. Feedback is treated as a shared task with parents.
Programmes
Every programme is shaped to the student's stage and language ability, and aligned with the MOE syllabus, then extended into thinking and expression.
Kindergarten 1–2 · max 8
Our preschool framework, NECM (Nili Early Chinese Mastery), builds four pillars before Primary 1: Speak, Understand, Read and Write. Play-based, child-led and multi-sensory, with songs, role-play, picture-word cards and gentle stroke practice. Classes run 60 to 90 minutes.

Reading, writing, composition, oral and listening, on MOE-aligned exclusive materials. P1–2 build text recognition and basic composition; P3–4 add four-picture composition and comprehension; P5–6 move to six-picture composition and PSLE-level oral and listening.
Online or in person · max 6
Focused classes on oral expression, composition and comprehension. Lower secondary narrows the jump in difficulty from primary; upper secondary builds towards the Chinese 'O' Level, covering answering formats, idiom banks and rephrasing technique.
New to Mandarin · 1.5h
A beginner Mandarin class for children new to Chinese or with minimal exposure. Pinyin and basic characters, daily expressions and situational practice, through games, stories and conversation in a relaxed classroom.
Primary & secondary · 1.5h
For students following the China syllabus on PRC People's Education textbooks (人教教材). Complex linguistic structures, advanced vocabulary and cultural context, for academic work and real communication.
Beginner to fluency · 1.5h
Adult classes built around the official HSK textbooks, from HSK 1 everyday phrases through to HSK 4 fluent conversation. Small groups give room for real speaking practice and direct feedback.
How we teach
The purpose of homework is not to do more, but to work on what is most meaningful and effective for the child.
We write our own worksheets and exercises, then match them to each child's ability and pace, strengthening weak areas while reinforcing strengths. Share an exam timetable and we plan targeted revision around it.
Parents are kept informed about a child's performance in class, recent progress, and whether there has been improvement or a setback. We welcome parents' input and adjust our approach where it helps.
Children learn best when they are interested. Lessons use interactive activities, hands-on practice and differentiated work pitched at the right level, with a small stamp-and-reward system to keep it motivating.
Class sizes
Small classes let a teacher understand each child's pace, strengths and challenges. More interaction, clearer feedback, more room to ask and to be heard. These caps are firm.
Within the small-group setting, teachers monitor each child's understanding and participation, with guidance, homework and feedback tailored to their progress, so no child is overlooked.
Questions
Many tuition centres focus on showcasing final results and top grades. We place greater emphasis on a child's learning journey and progress over time. Some children may join us at a level such as AL6, and through consistent guidance and support, gradually improve to AL4 or AL3. To us, this kind of meaningful and sustained progress is more valuable than a good grade achieved without growth.
Our focus is on whether children truly learn how to read, write, speak, think, and understand Chinese. Learning Chinese is not just about completing worksheets or getting the correct answers, but about understanding texts, organising ideas, and expressing thoughts clearly and confidently. We aim to build strong and lasting language foundations, rather than short-term exam results.
Yes. After each lesson, teachers provide feedback to parents either face-to-face or through voice messages, depending on the situation. We view feedback as a collaborative process. Our goal is to work closely with parents to support the child's learning progress, both in class and beyond.
No. Our homework and learning materials are not standardised across all students. Teachers adjust assignments and learning focus based on each child's ability, classroom performance, and specific areas that require improvement. The purpose of homework is not to do more, but to work on what is most meaningful and effective for the child.
If a child requires additional support, teachers may spend an extra 30 minutes to one hour after class to help clarify concepts and address areas of difficulty. We do not want children to leave with unanswered questions, nor do we want them to gradually lose confidence in learning Chinese.
We keep our class sizes intentionally small to ensure effective learning and meaningful teacher–student interaction.
Yes. Our lessons are aligned with the MOE syllabus. At the same time, we extend beyond the syllabus by focusing on language understanding, thinking skills, and expression, so that students are better equipped to apply what they learn.
Yes, trial lessons are available for new students. We provide a 1-1 free trial and also a group free trial. Trial lessons allow us to better understand the child's learning needs, and help parents assess whether our teaching approach is suitable for their child.
